The Key Question

IG Replacement vs. Full Window Replacement

We'll always tell you the honest answer — because sometimes IG unit replacement is the right call, and sometimes you genuinely need a new window. Here's how to tell.

FACTOR IG UNIT REPLACEMENT FULL WINDOW REPLACEMENT
Frame condition ✓ Good — no rot or warping Frame is rotted, cracked, or warped
Issue ✓ Foggy glass, broken seal Structural failure, frame damage, drafts at frame
Hardware ✓ Still functional Broken, impossible to source replacements
Cost ✓ 60–80% less expensive Higher — but necessary when frame is the problem
Disruption ✓ Minimal — often same day More involved — typically full installation day
Best for ✓ Seal failures, broken panes Aged frames, major energy loss at frame perimeter

During your free estimate, we'll assess your specific windows and tell you which approach makes sense — honestly.

Window Styles

Every Window Style — We Do It All

From classic double-hung to picture windows and everything between — we'll match your home's style and your ventilation needs.

Most Common

Double-Hung

Both sashes slide up and down independently. Easy to clean from inside — both sashes tilt in. Classic look that suits nearly any home style. Available in virtually every size.

Great Views

Picture / Fixed

A single, non-opening pane — maximizes the glass area and view. Perfect for living rooms, great rooms, or anywhere you want an unobstructed panorama. Highly energy-efficient.

Energy-Efficient

Casement

Hinged on one side, opens outward with a crank. Provides excellent ventilation and seals very tightly when closed — one of the highest-performing window styles for energy efficiency.

Versatile

Sliding / Gliding

Panels slide horizontally. Great for wide openings where vertical clearance is limited. Simple operation and clean sight lines — works well in contemporary homes.

Ventilation

Awning

Hinged at top, opens outward from the bottom. Can stay open during light rain — excellent for bathrooms and kitchens. Often combined above or below a fixed picture window.

Classic

Bay & Bow

Projects outward from the exterior wall, creating depth and character. Typically includes a large center window flanked by angled side windows. Adds interior space and curb appeal.

Frame Materials

Choosing the Right Frame for Colorado

Colorado's climate — intense UV, rapid temperature swings, low humidity — is hard on windows. Here's how the main frame materials compare.

🪟 Vinyl (uPVC)

The most popular choice for good reason — excellent insulating value, immune to rot and corrosion, minimal maintenance, and budget-friendly. Holds up exceptionally well in Colorado's UV-intense environment. Our most frequently recommended option for residential replacement.

🌲 Wood / Wood-Clad

The warmest, most traditional look — natural wood interior with an aluminum or vinyl exterior cladding for weather protection. Highest-end aesthetic, excellent insulation, but requires more maintenance than vinyl. Premium pricing.

⚙️ Fiberglass

The strongest frame material available — dimensionally stable in extreme temperatures (no expansion/contraction), can be painted, and has the highest insulating value of any frame. Premium option, premium durability.

Why Replace Now?

The Benefits of New Windows

💡

Lower Energy Bills

New, properly sealed windows with Low-E glass and argon fill can reduce heating and cooling costs by 25–40%.

🏡

Curb Appeal & Resale

New windows are one of the highest-ROI home improvements — visible from the street and top-of-mind for buyers.

🔇

Sound Reduction

Double and triple-pane windows with argon fill dramatically reduce outdoor noise — traffic, neighbors, wind.

🔒

Better Security

Modern windows feature multi-point locking systems and impact-resistant options that aging single-pane windows simply can't match.

FAQs

Replacement Window Questions

  • How do I know if I need new windows vs. just IG replacement?

If the frame is structurally sound (no visible rot, warping, or cracking; hardware still operates; no drafts at the frame perimeter), IG replacement is almost always the better value. If the frame itself is failing, a full replacement is necessary. During your free estimate, we'll give you an honest assessment — we'd rather save you money if repair is the right answer.

  • What's the difference between a pocket replacement and a full-frame replacement?

A pocket (or insert) replacement keeps the existing frame in the wall and installs a new window unit inside it — faster and less disruptive, but the viewing area is slightly smaller. A full-frame replacement removes everything including the frame and casing, then installs fresh — better when the existing frame is deteriorated or you want to change the window's rough opening size.

  • Do replacement windows qualify for tax credits?

ENERGY STAR-qualified windows may qualify for the federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit. The credit is up to 30% of the cost (up to certain limits). We'll identify which products qualify — and we recommend consulting your tax advisor for specifics on eligibility.

  • Will replacing windows impact my home's historic character?

We work with customers to find options that preserve original character while improving performance. Many manufacturers offer wood-interior windows and historically-appropriate simulated divided light patterns that maintain a traditional look while delivering modern energy efficiency.
